The legendary Taira has launched a remarkable grassroots diplomacy initiative, which strongly resonates with the science diplomacy efforts of our Ukrainian science diaspora. We invite all diaspora colleagues to join in!
Details from Taira:
“Yes...
What do we have here?
The enemy is trying to turn the tide of the war, which means we must triple our efforts.
We’ve come up with a way for everyone to get involved, regardless of the country they’re in—and it directly supports the advocacy for Ukraine’s victory.
This is grassroots diplomacy.
The initiative is primarily aimed at Ukrainians abroad—our powerful diaspora.
We have many exciting initiatives and vibrant activities ahead of us.
And we will kick things off on Vyshyvanka Day.
We hereby announce a global advocacy campaign for Ukraine – “Not Just an Embroidered Shirt.”
We’ve decided to take a systematic approach to promoting Ukraine globally in order to effectively counter russian propaganda.
- We must tell the world about our war for liberation, and this is an incredibly important way for Ukrainians around the world to support the front.
- May 16, Vyshyvanka Day, is a perfect opportunity to start this effort. After all, when you wear a vyshyvanka, people often ask - what is it? And that’s your chance to talk about what is happening in Ukraine right now and why it needs support.
- To coordinate our efforts, we’ll be using the Strichka app, where curated materials will be gathered for each target country where you’ll be defending Ukraine’s reputation. The app will also serve as a space for discussing other joint actions.
- If you are a leader or activist of a Ukrainian organization abroad, Strichka needs you to help create localized narratives and materials tailored to each country. After all, we can’t tell the same story to a Pole, an Australian, an American, or a Japanese person. That’s why we need your ideas and content, which you’ll be able to upload to your own moderated communities.
This is a collective effort—your contribution is invaluable. It’s not only grassroots diplomacy, but also true grassroots democracy.
Moreover, Strichka is designed as a tool for coordination, information sharing, and mutual support among Ukrainians around the world.
It will be incredibly useful to us—the development and functioning of the app and website depend entirely on the community—all of us.
Besides, it’s fun :)
