16 October 2026 · 14:00–19:30 · University of Vienna (IOG lecture hall)

On 16 October 2026, the Institute for East European History at the University of Vienna will host the international conference “Research and Resistance: Ukrainian History and Historians in Times of the Russian War,” dedicated to Ukrainian history, historical memory, and the role of the historian under the conditions of Russia’s war.

The conference brings together Ukrainian and international scholars to discuss how historical scholarship works and sustains its resilience when the past itself becomes a target of attack – and when research turns into a form of resistance.

Speakers include Anton Drobovych, Oksana Melnyk, Mykhaylo Tyaglyy, Alexandr Osipian, Ihor Zhaloba and others. The conference is organised by Prof. Wolfgang Mueller (IOG).
