Maryna Kornet

Dr. Maryna Kornet, Associate Professor, is a Ukrainian researcher working in bioorganic, medicinal and organic chemistry. She is currently an Independent Researcher at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany, supported by the Philipp Schwartz Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In Ukraine, she is Head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology of Physiologically Active Substances and Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of Zaporizhzhia National University.

She holds a Candidate of Sciences degree in Bioorganic Chemistry, equivalent to a PhD, and has more than twenty years of experience in research and higher education. Her research focuses on nitrogen-containing heterocycles, particularly quinoline and pyridine derivatives, modified aminothiols, organic synthesis and structure–activity–toxicity relationships. Her work combines synthetic chemistry with in silico, in vitro and in vivo studies of biologically active compounds, including substances with antioxidant, radioprotective and antimicrobial properties.

Her international academic experience includes research stays and fellowships at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf supported by DAAD, MSCA4Ukraine and the Philipp Schwartz Initiative. She has managed research projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and has experience in research project evaluation, higher education quality assurance, scientific peer review, teaching and supervision.

As a mentor, she would be interested in supporting Research Hubs working in medicinal and bioorganic chemistry, synthetic and heterocyclic chemistry, drug discovery and related interdisciplinary areas. She would also be glad to share her experience in research project development, scientific publishing, grant proposal preparation, international academic cooperation and building long-term partnerships with European universities and research groups.

"I see mentoring as an opportunity to help Ukrainian research teams develop strong scientific ideas into sustainable projects and international collaborations. I would be glad to support Research Hubs with research planning, publications, grant proposals and building long-term partnerships with European research groups."
