One of the key outcomes of the pilot cycle of the mentorship program organized by the Ukrainian Science Diaspora initiative is a joint scientific publication by Uliana Zbezhkhovska and her mentor Dmytro Chumachenko in the journal Computation (Q2, indexed in Scopus).
As part of the program they collaborated on a research project that resulted in the following article:
📄 “Smoothing Techniques for Improving COVID-19 Time Series Forecasting Across Countries”
The article explores the impact of time series smoothing techniques on forecasting accuracy for new COVID-19 cases using modern machine learning models. This publication exemplifies how academic mentorship can contribute not only to professional development but also to impactful scientific results.
The pilot cycle of the mentorship program ran from February to May 2025 and included 11 mentor–mentee pairs. The program is a volunteer-based initiative aimed at supporting Ukrainian researchers who continue their academic work amid the ongoing war.
The next cycle starts in September 2025
