Viktoriia Hurochkina, 15 September 2025

On September 13, 2025, in Warsaw, as part of the Ukrainian delegation’s working visit to Poland, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denys Kurbatov met with representatives of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora. The meeting was organized by the Foundation "Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland." The focus was on supporting Ukrainian scholars in Poland, maintaining connections with Ukraine’s scientific ecosystem, and launching joint initiatives and pilot projects.

During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation held a series of meetings in Warsaw from September 11–13 with Polish and German partners, including a trilateral discussion Ukraine–Germany–Poland at the Polish Academy of Sciences. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, the agreements reached in Warsaw form a common framework for further integrating Ukrainian science into the European Research Area and for preparing joint projects and exchange programs.

At the meeting on September 13, held at the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, the role of the Foundation "Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland" in supporting Ukrainian scholars in Poland and developing initiatives that allow them to remain part of the Ukrainian community and contribute to the country’s recovery was discussed. Among the ideas was the launch of the "International Science Ambassador" initiative for universities and research institutes.

Following the "Strategic Consultations on Ukraine’s Academic Integration into the EU," the Foundation is focusing on four key directions: a systemic PL→UA transfer of tested Polish academic practices; a brain circulation policy through the institutionalization of dual affiliation or the "International Science Ambassador" initiative; the development of an analytical hub with an annual *Barriers to Integration* report and a series of policy briefs; and the preservation of ethnic capital through support for P. Levchuk’s program "Ukrainian as a Second Foreign Language" and research on forced migration. Operational plans include forming working groups for each direction, aligning a roadmap for 2026, and preparing a package of pilot projects for international competitions and mobility programs, in coordination with the trilateral agreements in Warsaw.

The program of the meeting of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland, "Strategic Consultations on Ukraine’s Academic Integration into the EU," with the participation of Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denys Kurbatov, is available at the following link.
