Festive Meeting of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland“Solidarity through Science: Poland and Ukraine Together”on the Occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day

Viktoriia Hurochkina, 18 September 2025

On August 22, 2025, a festive meeting of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland, “Solidarity through Science: Poland and Ukraine Together”, was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, organized by the Foundation “Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland”* on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

The welcome address was delivered by Vasyl Bodnar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Poland, and Vasyl Melnychuk, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland.

The event brought together representatives of universities and research institutions from both countries for a professional discussion on academic identity in times of war, prospects for joint scientific and educational projects, international visibility of research, and barriers to integration into the European academic space.

Based on the discussions, practical areas of cooperation were outlined: the formation of joint consortia and educational programs, the development of networking and mobility, and the improvement of institutional integration mechanisms. The event reaffirmed the shared goal of building “science without borders” within a unified European academic space.

The Foundation “Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland” and the Center for Ukrainian Studies at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) are developing a portfolio of interdisciplinary research on migration, socio-economic transformations, scientific cooperation and innovation, as well as Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area. In 2024–2025, analytical works were published, including: “Ethnic Capital: A Review of Models, Measurement Methods, and Research Analysis Challenges” (V. Hurochkina, T. Shapiro), “International Academic Cooperation of Ukraine: Partner Classification” (T. Shapiro, V. Yanovska), “Income Declaration in Ukraine: Constitutional Duty or Tax Solidarity?” (V. Hurochkina), as well as studies on sustainable energy transition and microgrids. We invite you to learn more.

The Foundation "Ukrainian Science Diaspora in Poland" extends its sincere gratitude to all speakers for their insightful presentations and professional discussions.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Ukrainian and Polish scholars, we are strengthening scientific and educational partnerships, contributing to the development of interstate cooperation.
