Presentation of the research report ‘The Impact of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora on Ukraine's Recovery’

Yevheniia Polishchuk, 02 March 2026

Yevheniia Polischuk, co-founder of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora initiative, presented a report on the study ‘The Impact of the Ukrainian Science Diaspora on Ukraine's Recovery.’ The presentation took place on 23 February 2026 during the Café Kyiv event in Berlin. The event was dedicated to the 4th anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It brought together politicians, public figures, scientists and concerned friends from Germany. They had the opportunity to share their experiences of how they support Ukraine.

During her presentation, Yevheniia drew attention to the practical aspects of using the digital platform.

The platform currently features an interactive map of scientists in the diaspora. This map primarily shows scientists from different countries who are ready to collaborate with scientists in Ukraine. It is possible to apply filters by categories such as country and field of science. You can also find the contact email address of a scientist from the diaspora. Therefore, you do not need intermediaries in this process. Scientists from Ukraine can offer them various options for cooperation.

The platform also features a ‘Science Diplomacy’ module. It contains interviews with scientists in the diaspora who are actively helping Ukraine in difficult times. Moreover, our colleagues have compiled an open-access library of works dedicated to scientific diplomacy and diaspora studies.

The platform also serves as a venue for mentoring. The third cohort of young scientists will begin working with experienced scientists from the diaspora in March. Recruitment for the fourth cohort will continue until the end of March, so hurry up if you haven't registered yet.

There are plans for its development, which will be presented later.

We thank GIZ for supporting the development of our platform.
