New podcast episode: Nataliya Sinkevych – “History of Ukraine (17th–18th centuries) | Politics of Memory | University of Leipzig | Part 2”

A new episode is now available in the Ukrainian Science Diaspora podcast series: “Nataliya Sinkevych | History of Ukraine (17th–18th centuries) | Politics of Memory | University of Leipzig | Part 2” .

The guest is Nataliya Sinkevych, a historian with two academic degrees (history and theology) and an academic assistant at the University of Leipzig (Germany), where she teaches courses on the history of Ukraine and Central and Eastern Europe. Her research focuses on the history of ideas, intellectual history, and interconfessional relations; since 2022, she has also focused on memory politics and how history shapes political discourse.

Part 2 covers:

  • the surge of interest in Ukrainian history in Germany after 2022;
  • the challenges of building an academic career in the German system;
  • suspicions of “nationalism” prior to 2022;
  • the importance of public engagement and demonstrating the competitiveness of Ukrainian academia;
  • the decline of interest in 2024–2025.
