Read an interview by Dmytro Kovalov, co-founder of the Japanese-Ukrainian Friendship Association NGO "Krayany"

On the website "Ukrainian Science Diaspora" in the section "Interviews with Ukrainian Scholars Abroad: Scientific Diplomacy and Activism" read the interview given for our Initiative by Dmytro Kovalov, mathematician, co-founder of the Japanese-Ukrainian Friendship Association NGO "Krayany".

Dmytro Kovalov was born in Kyiv. In 1984 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He worked at the Kyiv Production Association "Krystal", the Institute of Modeling Problems. In 1993 he went on a two-year internship at the University of Tokyo. Since then, he has lived and worked in Japan. He studied at the Doctoral course (the Japanese equivalent of the PhD course) and worked at the University of Tokyo. At the same time, he began working in the IT field, where he still works. Since 2000, he began to implement the idea of uniting Ukrainians in Japan. On April 3, 2021, he officially registered in Tokyo the Japanese-Ukrainian Friendship Association NGO "Krayany", which he created together with his wife Natalia. "Krayany"is aimed at expanding international cooperation between Japan and Ukraine in the fields of culture, art, and education.
