Yury Gogotsi is a professor at Drexel University (USA), founder and director of the E. J. Drexel Institute for Nanomaterials. He works in the fields of chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology.

He was born in Kyiv. In 1984, he graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In 1986, he defended his PhD thesis in chemistry. In 1986-1990, he was a research associate at the I.M. Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science. In 1990-1992 – Research Fellow at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellow; in 1992-1993 – Research Fellow at the Tokyo University of Technology (Japan), Japan Science Promotion Organization Fellow; in 1993-1995 he was a research fellow at the Materials Research Center of the University of Oslo (Norway), a NATO Research Council fellow. In 1995 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences at the I.M. Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 1995-1996, he was a research fellow at the University of Tübingen (Germany); since 1996 – at the University of Illinois (USA); since 2000, he has been working at Drexel University (USA). Since 2010 – Honored Professor of this university. Honorary Professor of Sumy State University, I. Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, I. Frantsevich Institute of Materials Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Jilin University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Paul Sabatier University. Laureate of numerous prizes and awards.
